About the Artist

My artistic path began at the age of five when I began working in a local theatre. That continued until I attended the MN Center for Arts Education (equivalent to the high school from Fame).

In college I worked on majors in Elementary Education and Theatre Arts, with a minor in Fine Art.

I started creating kaleidoscopes in 2003 when my eldest son became bored with my making sculptures. I started with a simple scope kit, planning on just making one to keep my son busy. Right away I fell in love with the beauty that kaleidoscopes create. From that one little distraction for my son, a passion for making scopes was born.

After I began making my own designs I had to stop making sculptures in order to keep up with the kaleidoscope demands.

I taught myself how to flame work the interior glass findings and ampoules. Flame working has now become the most relaxing time of the day, and I really look forward to it. The exteriors are created using polymer and mica, and then sanded and polished in a 12-step process.
